PolyFinances is a Polytechnique Montréal student committee, founded in 2011, that integrates a financial orientation into the engineering academic path. The program aims to create a bridge between engineering and finance, by training a new generation of highly qualified engineers. Comprising members from six different engineering programs, the committee is equipped to address the financial aspects of projects and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of technology companies, all within a global economic context.
Each year, the committee organizes its annual mission, exploring a finance-related theme by drawing parallels between Montreal and an international destination. It also manages a stock portfolio and benefits from the support of a board made up of seasoned professionals from the financial industry.
Funding for the annual mission comes from financial consulting mandates carried out for companies, as well as from the organization of events such as the Datathon - a university competition combining finance and artificial intelligence - and PolyFinances Week, which aims to introduce the Montreal student community to the field of finance.
Economic transition and industrial diversification involve moving from an economy based on a dominant sector (such as oil or raw materials) to a diversified economy with varied activities such as AI, IT, renewable energies, biotechnologies and entertainment, all driven by innovation. This diversification reduces economic risks and promotes sustainable growth based on multiple economic pillars.
The United Arab Emirates is an outstanding example of the successful transition from an oil-dependent to a diversified economy. Over the years, the UAE has strategically reduced its dependence on oil by investing in sectors such as tourism, finance and real estate, with Dubai playing a central role in this transformation.
Particular attention is paid to how the various players in a given region support this transition through regulatory policies, financing strategies, investment strategies and innovation, as well as to the impact of this diversification on the global economy.
