The basic materials sector groups companies that discover, develop and process raw materials. This sector includes among others the mining industry, the refining of metals and forestry products. This sector is sensitive to the business cycles. The products sold by this financial sector are found in nature and in finite quantities.

Massakoro Oularé
Graduating with a bachelors in mining engineering
After two years of study in mathematical sciences and computer science in Morocco. Massakoro turned to mining engineering at school Polytechnique where he is currently entering his last year. Convinced that beyond the technical skills, the engineer must be able to understand the economic and financial stakes of his field to anticipate needs of his business. With this in mind, he decided to join Polyfinances for the academic year 2018-2019.
Involved in the School Management Advisory Committee Polytechnique (CCGP) as project director, he had the opportunity to working on various projects in various fields, including AI, Agribusiness and Fin Tech . On a professional level, he completed an internship at IVADO (Institute of Data Valuation) where he worked on the stochastic models used in the planning and optimal use of resources in companies. This experience allowed him to take his first steps in the industry 4.0 and to do so gateway with mining operational research. He then performed a second internship in the Nunavik region with Canadian royalties in logistics and in mining operations.
Desiring to take up new professional challenges, he thinks he can provide a added value for the finance cluster team thanks to its experience and know-how to help Polyfinances achieve these goals.
Thomas Rochefort-Beaudoin
Third year student in aerospace engineering
Driven by his insatiable curiosity and his desire to deepen his engineering education by combining finance and technology, Thomas joins the PolyFinances team in his third year of a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering. According to him, the highly globalized market in which Polytechnique students will pursue a career presents major innovation challenges linked to numerous financial issues that an engineer must understand on a more global level.
Interested in the world of research, Thomas had the opportunity to do a first internship at the Department of National Defense, where he worked for the electro-optical section of the Canadian Defense Research and Development Center. He participated in the development of a directed energy defense project where he applied his engineering knowledge to respond to a real challenge for the security of the Canadian Armed Forces.
As President of the 2018-2019 cohort, Thomas plans to use his communication and leadership skills to lead the PolyFinances team to its many goals for the coming year. As an analyst for the basic materials sector, he is looking forward to developing his financial analysis skills and learning more about how companies in this sector operate.
